I've been a student at Kellman's Okinawan Karate since the doors first opened. I enjoy that there are 3 instructors and that each give their own interpretation on the material to be learned. They always help you work around your weaknesses and help you to capitalize on your strengths. I recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn effective martial arts, regardless of age or ability.

While searching for a reputable teaching academy in Karate, I found Kellman’s Okinawan Karate School in Scotia, NY. I was looking for a School that had trained martial arts instructors and found all this to be so at this School.
I sat in on a few classes and was very impressed with Sensei Kellman in his handling his students of all ages, especially the children. He was very patient and the students really enjoyed being taught by him.
I also found out that the School also has private lessons and that appealed to me very much.

My son and I have been taking karate at Sensei Kellman's for about a year. The experience has been fantastic, and has given my son and I additional quality time both in and out of the dojo. The two things which I like about this studio are the instructors themselves, and the means by which the students are tested.There are three instructors: Sensei Kellman, Sensei Beurmann, and Sensei Martin. Each instructor has a unique and individual skill set to offer to the student. More importantly however, is that they provide different perspectives on the martial arts, while at the same time remaining consistent in the premise of our style Uechi Ryu. This provides the student with a more open mind set in their approach to the martial arts, and in the future will create a more "effective" martial artist.
The second point I would like to make is in regard to testing. At Kellmans Okinawan Karate testing is solely on an individual basis, no group testing, and secondly when you rise in rank in this dojo you feel you have truly earned it. In my opinion it is a great deal more satisfying to work and practice hard to accomplish a goal, than it would be for the same goal to be just handed to you. At Kellman's you will earn your rank, and when all is said and done, this is as it should be.
Kellman's Okinawan Karate is a great place to learn and experience the martial arts. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone who is interested in pursuing the martial arts for the first time, or for those looking to advance any skill sets they may already have.

Starting lessons at Kellman's Okinawan Karate has become one of the more gratifying personal accomplishments I've had in a long time. Little did I know how much self defense would come into play along with the Karate. Being a single woman, I feel so much more confident when I'm out alone knowing that I have the skills to defend myself if needed. Sensei Kellman and Martin are very experienced, patient and give very clear instructions. The instructors and students are very friendly and make you feel welcome the first day! The CD's and written instruction make practicing so easy. I highly recommend this Karate studio for any woman!Posted By: GS
I would like to say that the Kellman school of okinawan karate has been a very satisfying and meaningful learning expierience. I have attended two other scools locally and while I was able to learn at those schools the personal expierience was completely different. The level of attention and the personal understanding that the instructors show at the Kellman school ,in my opinion are second to none.
